Application of Cerium Chloride

  • Friedel-Crafts Reactions: Acts as a Lewis acid to facilitate alkylation and acylation reactions.
  • Aldol Condensation: Helps in forming carbon-carbon bonds between aldehyde and ketone molecules.
  • Cross-Coupling Reactions: Facilitates the coupling of two different organic groups.
  • Reduction Reactions: Can be used to reduce nitro groups to amines and for the dehalogenation of organic compounds.
  • Water Treatment:Cerium chloride finds applications in water treatment processes. Its ability to remove fluoride from water makes it valuable in areas where excessive fluoride in drinking water is a health concern.
